In recent years HMRC have changed how research and development costs and tax credits are claimed, which has caused the whole process to become more complicated for those who aren’t regularly making the claims.
However, HMRC have confirmed they will be releasing a pilot scheme for a new clearance produced later this year. The aim of the new services to be able to provide help and assistance to companies looking to claim R&D tax credits but don’t know if they will qualify. The service will cover:
- Whether a project meets the requirements of R&D for tax purposes
- If any overseas expenses qualifies for the relief
- Who can claim the relief for any expenditure that has been contracted out
- Whether and PAYE exemptions exist
There is currently no confirmed start date for the service.
