With the soaring temperatures and increase in extreme weather events, not just in the UK but on a global scale, is it time to do your part and try to become more environmentally friendly?
There is no easy solution, and many may see it as an expense they could do without, however there are benefits beyond just environmental that could help your business.
We have highlighted some benefits we feel could be gained from going green.
Cost Savings
Changing to more energy efficient equipment, LED lighting for example, can help cut monthly costs. In a similar way cutting down water usage can help reduce your monthly utility costs. Another option is to increase recycling; by doing so you can reduce your general waste and by extension reduce your waste disposal costs.
While these aren’t earthshattering savings a month over time they can add up to significant savings.
Standing Apart from Competitors
Getting an earlier start on going green than your competitors can help you stand apart from them, and possibly attract additional customers. A recent consumer survey has shown that of the consumers asked 80% said they were more willing to pay a bit extra for more sustainable goods and services. Having that “green badge” can be a big pull to some consumers, and make your business stand out from the crowd.
Attracting New Talent
In a similar way to customers staff are more aware of a business’s environmental sustainability, especially among the younger generations. A green agenda helps you stand out from other businesses to these generations, which will help you attract the new, and younger talent, to help your business push forward into the future.
Keeping Up with Regulations
As many countries are pushing forward with their aims of a net zero position when it comes to the environment more and more regulations are being in brought in to help with this. These will end up having a direct impact on how your business is run, if you are already running as a green business then you are going to be ahead of the curve you will not need to act reactively and can end up saving money by being more efficient.
While there are plenty of benefits of going green it is not without costs. Adapting your business to a more sustainable approach will involve up front costs and investment. If these costs are what is holding you back there may be grants or other financial aid that can accessed to assist in the change. You will need to check what is available, both locally and in general, to see how you can benefit.
